GUIDE · WITHOUT ADDING YOUR OWN FUNDS

Free entry cash tournaments: what actually exists

It is one of the most searched phrases in this space and one of the worst answered: nearly every page promises "free tournaments with real cash prizes" and then hides the cost in step four. This guide does the opposite. Here are the four real routes to compete on 1V1 without adding your own funds, what each one gives you, how long it lasts, and the withdrawal requirement that applies to accounts that have never funded.

The short answer. Free entries do exist, but none of them is a permanently open free tournament. They are four specific mechanisms: a welcome credit for players who arrive through an invite, one risk-free challenge per month from Gold rank, three free challenges per month at Elite rank, and a refund when you miss by a hair. And there is one requirement worth reading before you start: an account that has never added funds cannot withdraw, no matter how many challenges it wins.

THE FOUR ROUTES

How to compete without paying in

What each route gives you, what it requires, and where its real limit sits.

The four routes to compete without an entry cost on 1V1, with what they give, requirements and limits
Route What you get What it requires Limit
Invite credit 250 Energy ($2.50 USD) without adding anything Arriving through the link of an existing player and verifying your Riot ID Expires in 14 days. One account per browser and one per device, permanently
Risk-free challenge If you lose, your entry comes back as playable balance Gold rank: 76 completed challenges 1 per month. Does not roll over
Elite free challenges The house covers the full entry Elite rank: 500 completed challenges 3 per month. Do not roll over
Bad Beat refund Entry returned as playable balance Missing by exactly one unit, and having won the match if the challenge required it Only the first lost challenge of the day

Ranks are measured by completed challenges, not by skill and not by money spent. Detail in progression and rewards.

WHAT TO KNOW FIRST

The withdrawal requirement

This is the part other platforms save for last. Here it goes first.

An account that has never completed a verified deposit cannot request a withdrawal. Not even if it reached the 2,500 Energy minimum by winning challenges with invite credit. The lock is released by the first $10 USD funding that has not been reversed.

Put plainly: the welcome credit exists so you can test the platform with real stakes, not to turn a signup into a payout. And the reason is concrete. If an unfunded account could cash out, the abuse path would be trivial: register accounts, take the 250 Energy, win until you hit the minimum, withdraw. That would be house money leaving without any ever coming in, and the cost would eventually land on the players who actually compete.

The lock affects nobody using the platform normally, because a player who competes adds funds anyway. What it does is shut the door on account farming. It is stated in the terms and shown on the withdrawal screen itself.

One-line summary: with free credit you can compete and you can win, but to cash out you need to have funded at least once. Withdrawal minimums and timelines are in payments and withdrawals.

THE MOST ACCESSIBLE ROUTE

The 250 Energy invite credit

The only one of the four available from day one, with no rank required.

1

Arrive through an invite

You need the link of an existing player. Without that link the credit does not trigger, so get it before creating the account.

2

Verify your Riot ID

Mandatory. The credit lands when you verify, not when you register, and your account needs level 50 and 15 ranked matches.

3

Compete with 250 Energy

Enough for up to five challenges at the 50 Energy minimum entry. You have 14 days before it expires.

Whoever invited you gets nothing at this step: their reward only arrives if you later add funds for the first time. That is deliberate, so the incentive is to invite real players rather than inflate signups. The full program caps are in progression and rewards.

One clarification about the welcome bonus, which often gets confused with this: the bonus doubles your first funding up to a 1,000 Energy cap, with a $10 USD floor. It is not a free route, it is a multiplier on the first funding. They are two different things and you can receive both.

THE UNDERLYING QUESTION

Why a permanent free tournament does not exist

It is worth explaining where the money comes from, because it clarifies why "free tournament, real cash prize" almost always hides something.

In a challenge, the prize is funded by the entries committed by players who miss their target. It is a closed system: money comes in from participants and goes out to the ones who deliver. If entry were free for everyone and the prize stayed as real money, the house would have to fund one hundred percent of prizes with no revenue behind them.

At scale that stops being a promotion and becomes an incentive to register fake accounts: the return on creating accounts would beat the return on competing well. That is why the free routes on 1V1 are narrow and capped: one credit per person and per device, monthly quotas that do not roll over, and a refund that requires having been a single unit away from the target.

If what you want is to compete without risking much, the realistic route is not hunting for free entries: it is starting at the 50 Energy minimum entry, fifty cents per challenge. That is cheaper than most tournament fees in this space and does not depend on any promotional program.

And the honest reminder: you can lose your entry. If you miss the target, the committed entry stays with the house. That is precisely what makes the prize possible for the players who hit it. Compare the model in skill vs gambling.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions about free entries

Yes, but not as a permanent open format for everyone. On 1V1 there are four real routes: the 250 Energy credit for players who arrive through an invite and verify their Riot ID, the monthly risk-free challenge at Gold rank, the three monthly free challenges at Elite rank, and the Bad Beat refund when you miss the target by exactly one unit. None of them is a permanently open free tournament.
No. An account that has never completed a verified deposit cannot request a withdrawal, even if it reached the 2,500 Energy minimum by winning challenges with invite credit. The lock is released by the first $10 USD funding that has not been reversed.
14 days from the moment it is granted. If it is not used within that window, it expires. It also requires a verified Riot ID and is limited to one account per browser and one per device, permanently.
It is a refund of your entry when you miss the target by exactly one unit, and you also won the match if the challenge required it. It applies only to the first lost challenge of the day and the refund arrives as playable balance, not withdrawable balance.
Not necessarily. The weekly tournament carries whatever entry each edition sets, and the prize is delivered as playable balance unless stated otherwise. It is not a free-entry format by default.
Because a challenge prize is funded by the entries committed by players who miss their target. An open, free tournament paying real money would have to be funded entirely by the house, and at scale that turns into an incentive to register fake accounts rather than to compete.
